Style of reporting: Investigative writing for print and online

Previous internship or work experience: I have previously interned for Oklahoma Watch, The Oklahoman and the Oklahoma Gazette. I also worked as a reporter and editor for OU’s student newspaper The Oklahoma Daily.

Favorite reporting experience: My favorite reporting experience was covering Austin City Limits music festival because seeing Jack White perform live and getting to write about it is akin to a religious experience. Plus, seeing all of your favorite bands live is like having all of your best friends with you in the same room.

Favorite reporting experience: I loved covering the voting rights issue during a discussion with Al Sharpton in NYC. And the most memorable experience is when I traveled to D.C. to cover a poverty discussion at the Brookings Institute.

Report: ATF can’t fully track some gun probes (Kevin Johnson, 7/09, USA Today) A new government review shows that the ATF lacks the capacity to adequately track all investigations involving improperly purchased firearms.

TSA finds 2 guns in Atlanta airport screening (AP, 7/09, CBS Atlanta) The Atlanta airport found loaded guns in carry-on bags for the first time since Georgia’s sweeping gun law went into effect earlier this month.

Blame weak gun laws for holiday violence, Chicago’s top cop says (Michael Pearson, 7/07, CNN) After over 60 people were shot over the Fourth of July weekend, Chicago’s police superintendent blamed weak gun laws.

Style of reporting: Long-form documentary video, documentary photography, investigative reporting

Previous internship or work experience: In Phoenix, I’ve interned for Arizona Highways Television as well as Vicinity Films, a small production company that produced “Seed Spot: The Documentary.” I reported for two international projects for the Cronkite Borderlands Initiative, as well as directed and worked on three award-winning documentaries.

Favorite reporting experience: This past spring, I visited Chiapas, Mexico to photograph for various stories for the Cronkite Borderlands Initiative. Being able to see and photograph a completely different way of life was life-changing.
