Spotlight on the Fellows: Emilie Eaton
Posted June 30, 2014Name: Emilie Eaton, Hearst Fellow
School: Arizona State University
Style of reporting: Long-form and narrative journalism, investigative reporting, and photojournalism.
Previous internship or work experience: I have worked for The Arizona Republic as a breaking news intern and community feature writer, for Cronkite News Service’s Washington, D.C. bureau, covering immigration, agriculture and defense, and for InMaricopa as a general news and education reporter.
Favorite reporting experience: This spring, I traveled to Chiapas, Mexico to report on the growing number of children immigrating to the United States by themselves. During my time there, I stayed in a migrant shelter overnight and it was eye opening. There was a toad the size of a large grapefruit hopping on the floor as I fell asleep!
